"Come with us in Roboclass"
On Saturday, June 29th, 2019, the students arrived at the Liszt Ferenc Airport in Budapest, where they were warmly welcomed by a leader of the association. Shortly after, they were brought to the hotel in Budapest where we spent 2 days together to know the capital city of Hungary a little bit better. After lunch we visited some historical places (Heroes Square, Széchenyi Bath, Vajdahunyad Castle, and in the evening we walked to the Margaret Iland. There the students could see the mucis fountaine and the whole city in evening lights. Next day we visited the Parliament, the Kossuth square, the Buda Castle with Mathias Church and the Fishermen Bastion. They could hear a lot of stories about founding Hungary and the famous kings.
On Sunday afternoon we set off with 3 mini buses to Kállósemjén, where students were accommodated in the Kállay mansion and teachers were accommodated in the Kiscsere guesthouse. Józsefné Egri, the leader of the association and the organizer of the training, moved to the mansion for 3 weeks and spent all her time with them to get to know them.
The program for the next three weeks was explained to the students and they could also ask questions about their stay and practical training.
The pedagogical aim of the project was, to develop students' digital competences, foreign language communication and intercultural skills, which facilitate their personal development, employability and participation in the European labor market.
During their stay, they gained international experience, developed their professional knowledge, digital, foreign language, social and social skills. The main purpose of the training was to provide students with knowledge of the achievements of the 4th Industrial Revolution, robots and 3D printing.
In the meantime, they learned about the activities of the association as a non-governmental organization for the sake of social development, and the importance of volunteering.
They got to know the Hungarian educational system, the Hungarian traditions, culture, customs and made friendships with the Hungarian students.
On Monday, July 1st, 2019, the students started their practical training. During their training routine, their digital competencies and algorithmic skills have significantly improved.
They learned the basic commands to move the robot. Through repetitive patterns, they learned how to use the Loop flow control instruction and the final conditions that can be used with it. With the help of it, they made to robot to draw different geometric patterns on the ground for better illustration. They got acquainted with the context of the Wait and Loop instruction and with the use of sensors (Touch, Ultrasonic, Light / Color).
They learned the difference between Compare and Change keywords when using sensors.
With the use of the light sensor they learned the basic line following algorithms. With the If and Switch commands they made the robot to be able to make decisions.
They became familiar with multithreaded programming and how it can be replaced with switch instruction. They learned how to interrupt a cycle instruction when several different conditions are fulfilled individually or in combination.
They became familiar with the Display, Sound and Light Instructions, and learned how to control them simultaneously.
They learned how to use variables and the basic data types. They learned the basics of proportional line tracking.
During the training, many complex tasks were solved to deepen the acquired knowledge as much as possible.
They became familiar with the building parts of the robot, for the final task, covering all the knowledge they had learned, they rebuilt the robot with a moveable arm extension and programmed it on their own. They competed to determine which team could solve the task as well as possible.
They learned to analyze global problems, break it down into elementary elements, and worked together on a solution. They were persistent in their work, and not only during the course, but also at the hostel in the evening, they were keen on dealing with the robots.
They took it with them to the accommodation and it was a pleasure to watch when a small group of 4-5 people worked together in the evening to refine their daily tasks. Their perseverance and motivation are exemplary. They could be counted on in all activities.
I'm sure they will pass on this knowledge to their peers at home.
On Monday, June 29th, 2019, after practice, the group met the hungarian students.
Hungarian students presented for them tipical hungarian folksongs, folk daces and they played on a tipical hungarian musical instruments, zither (citera). In this kultural evening the bulgarian students could learn hungarian folkdances and they also teached us to dance bulgarian folkdances. After the dancing they knew eachother, talked and played together
on the schoolyard in Kállósemjén. They teached the hungarian students to play volleyball.
From this evening they met every evening after their practice and played board games, sportgames, ride the bike and talked a lot.
The 1st week we visited the Aquaarena in Mogyoród where the students enjoyed every moment. At the weekend we were on a lake Levelek, where the could swimming, water skiing, boating.
2nd week after trainings we visited Nyíregyháza, the Zoo, aquapark and the biggest shopping center in our county. This week we visited the Hortobágy Csikós days, where they could learn about Hungarian folk cuisine and Hungarian equestrian traditions.
We had a barbecue party where the guitar came out. They sang, baked and made salads with the Hungarian students around the fire.
3rd week the students could try to fishing on the lake in Kállósemjén.
On Thuesday, July 18th, 2019, after the last day of the practical training, the program was evaluated by the participants and a member of the association team. They exchanged their points of view regarding their practical training as well as the Hungarian work system.
They also evaluated the organization of the whole program including getting to know the Hungarian culture and history thanks to numerous visits to Hungarian cities. The group further discussed future perspectives for the participants in the European Union.
Afterwards, the participants received their certificates and the necessary documents related to the project.
The next day the participants spent with the Hungarian students in Budapest. They had a journey on the Danube river and say good by to eachother. The bulgarian students slept in Budapest, because their flight was very earli in the morning on Saturday.
20 students (18 boys, 2 girls) and 2 accompanying teachers from the Kostantin Fotiadis School spent 21 days in an Erasmus+ summer practice organized by the Association For the Children and Youth in Kállósemjén. The main purpose of the exercise was to develop digital competences. The theme was designed to give students a thorough understanding
of robotics, which is the focus of their interest. The course has been designed from the ground up to the advanced level, so that students have time to strengthen group cohesion and to learn more about each other's strengths and weaknesses. We also provided an opportunity to establish a closer friendship between the visiting students and the local
youth. We also conducted a number of leisure activities and cultural programs and excursions on weekends for recharging.
The students arrived as a well-established, supportive team and left with even closer friendships at the end of the program. On weekdays they worked in groups and gained more and more knowledge of programming day by day. They supported and helped each other in the learning process.
During the 3 weeks they developed in many areas of competence. They were demanding for their environment, they kept the accommodation clean, they cleaned, washed the dishes, and washed all the time. They were very cozy in the kitchen, happy to make salads, and willingly were all over the stove while grilling with the local youth.
Their English-language competencies have developed remarkably. During the evening talks, they often and eagerly communicated with Hungarian youth in English. We often have historical discussions. They were very interested in the history of the Kállay family.
They demonstrated extensive knowledge in the field of history and culture and have a definite opinion on the current political issues. They are aware of their civic duties and rights and are keen to practice them.
They strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle and enjoy sports.
They are proud of their own culture, traditions and folk customs, and are keen to nurture them. It was a great experience watching them teach the hungarian youngsters to their folk dances and folk songs during the cultural evening. At the same time, they respected the Hungarian traditions and welcomed them.
This is an application form for the Erasmus + program, where students get a taste from all parts of life. They live together for 21 days, teacher and student breathe together.
They are thinking at a wavelength. They get acquainted with literature, history, different cultures, legends, and get to know each other's views on the world. They can show their self and get to know the worldview of others. It has humility, perseverance, tolerance, pride, motivation, patience, respect, interdependence. Emotional highs and lows between daily life routines. It is a beautiful example of life education. I am happy to be part of this miracle.
